DataNucleus Access Platform supports access to the vast majority of RDBMS available today. In addition it supports db4o, a popular object datastore. If those datastores aren't what you use you additionally have the choice of LDAP, Excel spreadsheets, OpenDocument format spreadsheets as well as XML documents, NeoDatis ODB and JSON (RESTful). Additionally it supports Amazon S3, Google AppEngine and HBase (HADOOP) amongst others.

DataNucleus Access Platform utilises an OSGi plugin mechanism meaning that it is highly configurable and extensible, not just by provided DataNucleus plugins, but also by your company where you have some utility that you would like to connect. It comes with a series of published APIs allowing you wide access to the access process.

Most competing products only support one type of datastore, or one API, and with it restrict what query language you have available to you.
